Santa Bárbara Castle, in Alicante, will restrict private vehicle access from May 4th to May 20th due to pedestrian connection works, allowing only urban buses and taxis.

From this Monday until May 20th, access to Santa Bárbara Castle will be restricted exclusively to the urban bus shuttle and taxis. This measure is being implemented due to the completion of the pedestrian connection works in its final section, which runs from the La Ereta car park to the fortress entrance.
During these 16 days, private vehicle access will be prohibited, as the previous parking area will be reserved for public transport vehicles to turn around. All detailed information regarding these restrictions can be consulted on the mobile application Alicante se mueve and through the city's official mobility website.

"Due to the execution of the urbanization project works for the pedestrian connection from La Ereta park to the access gate of Santa Bárbara Castle, vehicle passage will remain closed from May 4th to May 20th, 2026."

the Urban Mobility councilor
The Urban Mobility councilor explained that, during this period, circulation will be limited exclusively to public transport vehicles. Thus, only taxis and CSB line buses serving the castle will be allowed access. These vehicles will have to turn around in the La Ereta car park, where users will alight and board, and will have to complete the final section on foot to access the fortress.
Similarly, the entry of any other type of vehicle is strictly prohibited, including tourist services such as Tuc Tucs or minibuses, in addition to private vehicles. The project includes improving the environment of the castle's northwest slope to provide pedestrian access and, at the same time, working on a path that connects this main corridor with one of the viewpoints of Benacantil. The main path covers 4,539 square meters, while the trail extends for 115 meters.
The intervention primarily consists of reorganizing the space and creating a paved pedestrian connection with landscaped areas that will feature a landscape design in harmony with the surroundings, creating continuous and fluid spaces. Additionally, new circular benches will be installed, and lighting improvements will be made. In this way, the pedestrian path will also be accessible to people with reduced mobility.
