The Turís council has decided to transform its most significant historical heritage, the La Carència site, into a visitor attraction and a driver for economic and social recovery. This initiative is part of the municipal resilience plan to address the effects of the recent DANA (heavy rainfall), aiming to rebuild the social fabric through education and establish the town as a leading destination for archaeological tourism in the Valencian Community.
Declared a Site of Cultural Interest (BIC) in 2010, La Carència is an ancient fortified Iberian-Roman city, one of the most important settlements in ancient Edetania. Its value lies in the complexity of its three walls and its continuous occupation from the Bronze Age to the 12th century. The new municipal project aims to leverage this resource by offering tours that combine scientific rigor with a fun and accessible experience for all audiences.
The tourism promotion campaign will include guided tours on weekends in June and July 2026. These interpretive routes will connect the urban center of Turís with the archaeological site. The direction of these tours has been entrusted to Sigillata Arqueología, a collective of young specialists Jordi del Castillo, Albert Parada, and Laura Lorente, who have experience in excavations and public outreach.
A key highlight will be the I Educational Conference of La Carència on September 26th and 27th. During this weekend, the site will come alive with theatrical performances by local groups, recreating the daily life of the ancient Iberian inhabitants. The event will feature interactive workshops and special visits to the "Bull's Head" artifact (4th century BC). Additionally, in September, educational sessions will be held for schools.
To ensure the site's protection and a high-quality tourist experience, tours will be conducted in small groups. All information regarding schedules and mandatory reservations will be available on the municipal website and the council's official social media profiles.
