The town of Sueca has hosted the traditional water release, an event that marks the beginning of the rice agricultural campaign in the Ribera Baixa region.

The councilor for Devesa-Albufera and Agriculture attended this emblematic act, which symbolizes the liberation of waters to flood the fields and officially start the cultivation season. The event, held in the Major and Múzquiz irrigation canals, highlights the work of irrigators and farmers.

"It is the effort of centuries condensed today into a brief explanation and a tribute to those who wake up early every day to offer us the best rice in the world, which is grown in L’Albufera."

The tradition, which has been kept alive for centuries, constitutes a tribute to the work of irrigators and farmers, as well as to the agricultural culture linked to rice. The councilor emphasized the importance of preserving these ancestral practices.

"Without irrigators there is no rice, without water there is no field, without field there is no future. While some hinder and suffocate the sector, we defend those who wake up early every day to move our land forward."

Furthermore, he pointed out that this act is not only a tradition, but also an expression of identity and sovereignty, and insisted that protecting farmers is protecting the very essence of the community. During the celebration, the efficient water management by the Community of Irrigators was highlighted, a key factor for the sustainable development of agriculture in the Albufera Natural Park.
The water release, usually held in mid-April, marks the beginning of the rice cycle each year in the Albufera area, a crucial moment for the production of this characteristic cereal of the region.
