This year's annual publication for Cullera's Major Festivities takes on a distinctive character. In addition to providing the program and specific details of the celebrations, it includes an extensive monograph focused on the Valencian language. This initiative underscores the town's commitment to the defense, recognition, and promotion of Valencian as a fundamental element of the identity, culture, and traditions of both the municipality and the Valencian Community.
“"This publication not only talks about the local festivities, but it talks about who we are as a people and everything that identifies us. Valencian is the language with which we have grown up and told our stories."
The mayor of Cullera, Jordi Mayor, has emphasized the responsibility of institutions in protecting and fostering the Valencian language, stating that a well-cared-for language is a language with a future. In this regard, he praised the efforts of the Acadèmia Valenciana de la Llengua (AVL) in promoting and normalizing Valencian, positively valuing their participation in the book's creation.
The monograph features contributions from various personalities and professionals in the linguistic and cultural fields. Collaborators include Immaculada Cerdà, academic and secretary of the AVL; Manuel Lanusse, official chronicler of Cullera; Enrique Gandia, director of local museums; Edicions Camacuc; journalist Carla Meksoub; writer Manel Joan Arinyó; professors Salva Andrés and Antoni Picazo; Joangre Maria, director of the Marítim Festival de Cullera; and philologist Isidre Crespo.
In addition to the language-focused content, the publication gathers texts on the heritage, culture, and Major Festivities of Cullera, including the celebration of the 30th anniversary of the Associació Cultural La Penyeta and collaborations from social, cultural, musical, educational, and festive entities in the town. An additional brochure on Cullera's toponymy, written by Manuel Lanusse Alcover and coordinated by the Unitat de Recursos Lingüísticotècnics de l'AVL, will allow citizens to delve deeper into the knowledge of the language and its historical relevance.
Copies of the Cullera Major Festivities book can be collected until this Friday at the Casa de la Cultura, the Tourist Office, the Centre Cultural del Raval, and the ATÉN Office, located in the Town Hall.
