The deputy mayor of Orpesa has highlighted the need for a real evaluation of waste collection costs to fairly pass on the fee increase to citizens.

Within the framework of the III Forum on Municipalism, the deputy mayor of Orpesa expressed concern about the increase in the waste fee, noting that the implementation of the European principle of "polluter pays" has been incorrectly reflected in the tax related to the Waste Law of 2022.

"It is true that the real cost of the service should be passed on to each citizen, but we should have the means to evaluate the real cost for each family and adjust the fee accordingly."

Furthermore, the deputy mayor insisted on the importance of introducing new technologies in waste and residue collection, or in the new water concession. However, she warned that these measures must be carried out by correctly passing on costs to citizens, as otherwise, the decisions made could be challenged.
The European directive aims to achieve 65% recycling at a continental level before 2035. This objective must also be considered in fee payments, as not all citizens recycle in the same way, leading to a disparity in contributions.
