This initiative, driven by the Alzira City Council and the Alzireny Service for the Promotion of Valencian, aims to strengthen the presence of the language in the commercial sector. Participating establishments, which can still register until Wednesday, April 15, will receive 70 shopping carts to be raffled among their clientele.
“"To bet on Valencian in local commerce is to bet on our identity, our economy, and proximity to citizens."
Israel Pérez, Culture Councillor for the Alzira City Council, emphasized the importance of this campaign, highlighting that commerce is a fundamental space for socialization and the daily use of the language. According to Pérez, actions like this contribute to the normalization and visibility of Valencian in everyday life, and he added that the response from the commercial sector has been very positive, with a growing number of businesses understanding the value of Valencian in generating proximity and strengthening customer ties.
Between April 14 and 15, collaborating businesses will receive an informational poster, registration forms, a ballot box, and a shopping cart. Customers can fill out a form with their details to participate in the raffle. The collection of ballot boxes will begin on April 27, and the draw will take place on April 30 in the Plenary Hall of the Alzira City Council, where one winner will be determined for each ballot box. The lucky winners will need to collect their cart from the establishment where they participated, and a list of winners and corresponding businesses will be published.
Since last year, this initiative has been fully funded by the city council, without relying on external aid. Furthermore, this year the campaign is integrated into the activities programmed to commemorate the 750th anniversary of the death of Jaume I in Alzira.
