After years of disuse, the surroundings of El Carmen are once again full of life thanks to this municipal initiative. The inauguration, held this Saturday, brought together hundreds of residents in a large celebration with children's entertainment, face painting, snacks, music, and guided activities, at the foot of the Serra d'Espadà.
The new area, which involved an investment of 357,000 euros, includes football, basketball, handball, table tennis, and fronton courts. Additionally, it features children's play areas, picnic spots, rest areas, and spaces designed for family coexistence. A large mural by local artist Pau Canelles gives identity to the MICO Gaming Zone.
This project is part of the municipal plan for the comprehensive recovery of El Carmen, promoted by the council. The intervention was made possible by the cession of the land by the Carmelite Community, which also participated in the inaugural event and blessed the new space.
With this transformation, the City Council advances in its objective of recovering historical spaces in disuse to put them back at the service of residents. El Carmen thus becomes a new outdoor leisure benchmark in Onda, combining sports, games, nature, and coexistence, and consolidating the municipality as a City of Childhood.
The inauguration of this zone also represents another step in the recovery project of El Carmen, where the City Council is already working on the future reopening of the International Museum of Sciences of Onda - El Carmen (MICO). This new museum space will combine scientific dissemination, technological innovation, and immersive experiences.
