Since June 2007, the Nules City Council and the Civil Guard command have been demanding a comprehensive renovation of the barracks, which are in an advanced state of deterioration.

The demand for a comprehensive renovation of the Civil Guard Barracks in Nules continues to go unanswered by the Ministry of the Interior, despite the first formal request being made almost 20 years ago, on June 12, 2007. This need was officially communicated by the Civil Guard's command. Since then, all municipal councils have maintained this claim throughout the last five legislatures.
The latest municipal initiative, approved in June of last year, included an amendment by the Centrats a Nules, PSPV, and Més Nules groups to request the Ministry to renovate the barracks, as well as increase personnel and material resources to enhance citizen security. The agreement also included expanding the local police force and activating all installed security cameras.
The facilities, over 75 years old, show significant deterioration in both official premises and the housing for agents and their families. The Ministry's only recent action was repainting the main facade at the end of 2024. However, the poor interior condition, with peeling paint, dampness, and shored-up areas, highlights the precariousness of the complex.
The first deputy mayor, César Estañol (Centrats a Nules), laments the lack of investment from the ministry: “It is sad to see the conditions in which the Civil Guard officers of the Nules barracks have to live and work, and the lack of action from those responsible in the Central Government,” he denounces.
The situation in Nules is reminiscent of that experienced by Onda, where an agreement from 2007 with the Ministry for a new barracks was canceled in May 2024 due to a lack of investment interest. The Onda council had ceded a municipal plot, but the exchange was voided. The Onda barracks also suffer from serious structural deficiencies, with subsidence problems and shored-up areas.
