Benissa has seen a significant improvement in the selective collection of paper, cardboard, and packaging, and has reduced the residual waste fraction during the initial months of the 'Siguem intel·ligents' campaign.

Results up to May 2026 confirm a very positive trend in Benissa's waste management system, especially since the reorganization with the creation of unified container islands. In May 2026, paper and cardboard collection reached 62,720 kilograms, a 36% increase from the previous year, while light packaging grew by 16% to 27,300 kg. Concurrently, the residual fraction has decreased by 4.5% in the accumulated period, with notable drops in April (-15.1%) and May (-12.4%).
These results highlight a clear improvement in waste separation at the source and citizen involvement, key factors for a more efficient and sustainable model. The 'Siguem intel·ligents' campaign has been fundamental in raising awareness among residents about the importance of proper waste management.
As a continuation of the smart container implementation schedule, starting next Monday, June 22nd, the card-based opening system for organic matter containers will be activated. 3,180 cards have already been distributed during the ordinary phase, and the follow-up phase will extend for at least 20 months to ensure all households have the identification method.
The activation of identification for the organic fraction is expected to have a direct impact on increasing separation rates, as it has not previously shown acceptable data and was not available throughout the entire municipality. The priority objective is to continue increasing separation rates to make waste management costs more efficient.
The public company reminds that only food waste should be deposited in the organic container, always in compostable bags. More information on what can be deposited can be found on the campaign website: www.benissaimpuls.es/contenidors/va/organica/.
From Monday, June 22nd, residents needing to collect cards or resolve queries will have new service hours. At the Benissa Impuls offices (urban center), service will be available on Mondays from 14:00 to 20:00 and Wednesdays from 9:00 to 15:00. At the La Fustera coastal office (Av. de la Marina, 307), hours will be Thursdays from 14:00 to 20:00 and Fridays from 9:00 to 15:00. The Town Hall and Benissa Impuls will continue monthly monitoring of data to consolidate this trend and reinforce awareness actions.
