The promenade located on the banks of the Magro River, as it passes through Avenida Julio López Tarín in Utiel, has reopened to the public. This emblematic public space had to be temporarily closed due to severe structural damage caused by the DANA storm. Following a comprehensive rehabilitation, the promenade is now fully available to residents.
The repair works were carried out by the Conselleria de Agricultura (Regional Ministry of Agriculture), successfully restoring urban normality and safety to pedestrian access. However, the main novelty of the project lies in the complementary work undertaken by the Confederación Hidrográfica del Júcar (CHJ) (Júcar Hydrographic Confederation).
Through an ambitious hydraulic engineering project, the capacity of the Magro River has been doubled by widening its course. This strategic and preventive measure is designed to drastically enhance the municipality's safety against the risk of future torrential rain episodes.
The Conselleria de Agricultura has already confirmed a second phase for these works. This new stage will extend the expansion of the Magro River's course from Avenida Julio López Tarín to the area of the Institute, ensuring continuous protection in the school and residential environment.
The mayor of Utiel, Ricardo Gabaldón, highlighted the importance of these infrastructures: «Our priority objective remains the reconstruction of Utiel, with the clear goal of restoring services and improving our infrastructure conditions to ensure a more resilient and safer municipality than before October 29th».
With the completion of this first technical phase, the city council continues to coordinate urban planning to reconcile the recovery of daily recreational areas with the implementation of severe environmental safety measures throughout the municipal area.
