The Generalitat has increased aid against depopulation in Castellón by 30% over the last three years, rising from 1.7 million euros in 2022 to 2.2 million in 2025, as highlighted by the Director General of Local Administration, José Antonio Redorat, in Caudiel.

The allocation from the Cooperation Fund for the Fight Against Depopulation has seen significant growth, aiming to strengthen support for municipalities with greater demographic difficulties. Furthermore, modifications have been introduced to the Law 5/2023 on depopulation to better adapt its objectives to the reality of the affected municipalities.
Thanks to these changes, the number of localities eligible for this aid has grown from 84 in 2022 to 92 in 2025. The eight newly incorporated municipalities are Santa Magdalena de Pulpis, Traiguera, Alfondeguilla, La Jana, San Rafael del Río, Figueroles, Eslida, and Suera.

"Enjoying an event like today's serves to advocate for a change in perspective towards these municipalities, which are pejoratively referred to as 'empty Spain,' to do the opposite: to value the identity of inland towns, the quality of life that can be enjoyed there, and to foster pride of belonging to the territory as a way to maintain our roots and preserve our heritage and culture."

Football has been used as a tool for rural visibility during the fourth edition of the Goal Against Depopulation Trophy. The competition kicked off with the U-11 category, featuring Atlético Caudiel, MVP Fútbol Academy, Racing de Castellón, and Club Deportivo San Lorenzo de Castellón. In the afternoon, the U-18 and amateur category matches were played between Atlético Caudiel and Atlético Tales.

"The effort and merit that families living in these municipalities have to ensure their children can enjoy any sport, because they have fewer infrastructures or must travel longer distances."
