70-year-old man dies while swimming at Daimús beach

Lifeguards attempted to revive him unsuccessfully after he was found floating in the sea, and the Civil Guard is investigating the causes.

A 70-year-old man, a resident of Albaida, died this midday at Daimús beach after suffering an indisposition while swimming.

A 70-year-old man, a resident of Albaida, died this midday at Daimús beach after suffering an indisposition while swimming. The incident occurred around one in the afternoon, when the body was found floating in the sea.
Personnel from the Red Cross's rescue and lifeguard service quickly responded to the scene and attempted to revive the man. Meanwhile, the Daimús Local Police cordoned off the area. Lifeguards were assisted by bathers who provided umbrellas to facilitate cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) maneuvers.
A unit from the Urgent Medical Care Service (SAMU) was also mobilized and, despite performing resuscitation maneuvers, could do nothing to save his life, certifying his death.
The Civil Guard has taken charge of the proceedings. The autopsy is expected to confirm the exact cause of death.
This incident occurs within a concerning context. According to data from the Royal Spanish Federation of Lifesaving and Rescue (RFESS), 30 people died from unintentional drowning in Spanish aquatic spaces in May 2026.
