Train drivers for Ferrocarrils de la Generalitat Valenciana (FGV) have called for five new strike days during April 2026, affecting TRAM de Alicante and Metro València services, with a particular impact on Line 9, which serves the Marina Alta region.

The decision, driven by SEMAF union sections, extends strikes initiated in March and stems from workers' dissatisfaction with the company's "inaction" regarding operational safety proposals and the blocking of professional improvements in the negotiation of the XIV Collective Bargaining Agreement.
The strike days are scheduled for April 16, 21, 23, 28, and 30, 2026. Services will be affected during three time slots: from 07:00 to 10:00 h, from 13:00 to 16:00 h, and from 19:00 to 21:00 h. This measure will directly impact TRAM Line 9, which connects towns such as Dénia, Gata de Gorgos, Teulada, Benissa, and Calp.
The SEMAF union has presented 30 demands to FGV, with 10 focusing on technical safety and 20 on the collective agreement. These demands seek "professional recognition for drivers, organizational justice, and the retention of personnel in critical safety roles."

"This immobility certifies that the vision maintained for 40 years —in which the Driver must always be the culprit and responsible for everything, without being provided with means, tools, or recognition— is the management approach favored by the company's Directorate, which never incorporates technical advances or establishes appropriate safety frameworks."

A SEMAF proposal, endorsed by the State Railway Safety Agency (AESF) and the Ministry of Transport, to align FGV's safety systems with national standards, was "flatly rejected" by the company during a mediation meeting at the Labor Arbitration Court of the Valencian Community (TAL). SEMAF warns that a lack of institutional response could extend the conflict throughout the summer.
