This spring, the pages of the local magazine are filled with color and talent thanks to Maria Monfort Font, a young artist from El Poble Nou de Benitatxell. Monfort has carved out a niche for herself in the competitive world of painting and video creation, standing out for her fresh perspective and a special sensitivity to capture the essence of her surroundings.
This year, Maria Monfort not only creates for clients worldwide but also directly engages with her municipality's cultural fabric. As part of the ‘Awakening the Senses 2026’ cycle, the artist will lead two unique experiences: a landscape painting workshop on June 27 and a ‘Wine & Paint’ session on August 29.
“"I think it's important for an artist, in their works, to connect with who they are and with the viewer who will see the work. Having grown up in the town, I have been nourished by our traditions, music, and, above all, the landscapes of our land. Therefore, I think that portraying El Poble Nou is also portraying a part of me."
Her connection to the local landscape is profound. Monfort explains that growing up in El Poble Nou de Benitatxell has significantly influenced her artistic sensibility, drawing from traditions, music, and especially the landscapes of her homeland. This influence is reflected in her watercolors, where the town is a recurring theme.
The artist gratefully recalls her first commissioned portrait projects, which emerged thanks to social media. This experience, along with the exhibition ‘Paisatges de la meua terra’ in April 2023 in Benitatxell, marked a before and after in her career, opening doors to new opportunities, including an internship in Germany and collaboration with the Benitatxell Town Council for the current workshops.
Currently, Maria Monfort is working on the ‘CASA’ collection, an evolution of her previous exhibition, merging landscapes from Xàbia and Benitatxell. Her enthusiasm for sharing her knowledge with residents is palpable, aiming to bring art closer to the community and foster creativity, emphasizing the importance of enjoying the artistic process without fear of making mistakes.
