The +Cerca Plan of the Alicante Provincial Council has implemented a new cut in the allocation of funds for the municipalities of La Marina Alta, totaling 7 million euros less over the last three years. This reduction, amounting to 1.5 million euros in the current fiscal year alone, has caused concern among the region's town councils.
The new distribution for 2026, despite introducing changes in allocation criteria, primarily benefits smaller towns and those at risk of depopulation. Localities such as Jesús Pobre and La Vall de Laguar have experienced significant increases, rising from 42,528 to 152,875 euros and from 39,344 to 146,125 euros, respectively.
However, the major municipalities in the region, including Dénia, Xàbia, Calp, Benissa, and Teulada, continue to receive the minimum allocation from the plan. These localities, which in 2024 received amounts exceeding 260,000 euros, now receive only 33,000 euros, representing losses of over 230,000 euros in two years.
“"What is actually a cut of millions of euros cannot be sold as a great investment."
Compromís has denounced that the announcement by the Alicante Provincial Council regarding the 2.8 million euros for La Marina Alta does not reflect reality and is a strategy of "political whitewashing". According to spokesperson Ximo Perles, the region has lost nearly 7 million euros in just three years, and the program has decreased from over 43 million to 8.8 million across the entire province since 2023.
The political party has also pointed out a territorial imbalance, comparing the situation with the Valencia Provincial Council, which allocates around 50 million euros in an equivalent plan. This fact, according to Perles, means that the municipalities of La Marina Alta are receiving approximately one-third of the resources, directly affecting the functioning of town councils and basic services.
