The measure adopted by Francés, from the PSPV, comes after the impossibility of approving the accounts prepared by his government team, formed by PSPV and Compromís, who govern in minority in the capital of l'Alcoià. The opposition groups, comprising the PP, Vox, and Guanyar Alcoi, have expressed their rejection of the budget proposal.
The budget proposal presented by the left-wing parties amounts to 76,924,284.64 euros. The confidence vote is a legal tool that allows the mayor's office to link budget approval to a vote of confidence to ensure municipal governance.
“"I want to unblock the situation that the opposition has caused by not wanting to dialogue and having a strategy that has nothing to do with this budget."
Should the motion not receive majority support from the plenary, the opposition will have a one-month period to present a motion of no confidence with an alternative candidate. If this motion of no confidence is not presented or does not succeed, the municipal budget will be automatically approved definitively, once the public exhibition period has concluded.
The mayor indicated that the confidence vote seeks to “unblock” a situation that, according to him, has been generated by the opposition's lack of dialogue and a strategy not directly related to the budget. One of the points of contention has been the Alcoi Sud industrial project, promoted by the Generalitat, the Alcoy City Council, and the Chamber of Commerce, which is still in the administrative and environmental processing phase.
The spokesperson for the PP, Carlos Pastor, has accused Francés of “paralyzing the city” due to his lack of commitment to the development of this industrial land. For his part, Sergi Rodríguez of Guanyar Alcoi has reiterated that his group will not support the municipal accounts “until the protocol signed to promote the industrial park is terminated”.
