A video released by the Popular Party of Dénia shows a thick layer of asphalt on the Greenway, extending to Els Poblets. The political party has strongly criticized this action, stating that it "completely transforms the essence of this space" and turns it into an infrastructure more typical of a conventional road.
The Popular Party considers the use of asphalt on a route historically used by pedestrians, cyclists, and families as a place of leisure and connection with the natural environment to be a wrong decision. Furthermore, they highlight an "evident contradiction" in the discourse of the local government, formed by PSOE and Compromís, who "talk a lot about environment, nature, and ecosystems, yet carry out such an action in the municipality's natural lung."
“"We are talking about a route that in the middle of summer can reach very high temperatures, hindering its use and considerably reducing the comfort of those who travel it, especially walkers and cyclists."
The Popular Party has also warned of the consequences this intervention could have in the summer months, when high temperatures can cause the asphalt to overheat. This situation could hinder the use of the path and reduce the comfort of users, especially walkers and cyclists.
The political party questions the coherence of this action with the usual discourses of the local government on sustainability and mobility, considering it contradictory that "those who champion green policies opt for solutions that harden the environment and distance it from its natural character."
For all these reasons, the Popular Party will request a review of future actions to ensure that the Greenway maintains its identity as a public, sustainable, and environmentally respectful space. The party concludes that "turning a greenway into a road is, quite simply, a mistake."
