The Hospital Universitari Lluís Alcanyís in Xàtiva has implemented a new digital system with 22 computerized medication carts to enhance safety in drug administration for admitted patients.

This renovation, which involved an investment of over 200,000 euros, allows for more agile and controlled management of the drug dispensing and administration process. The carts are connected to the hospital's computer system and directly linked to each patient's clinical history.
Thanks to this integration, healthcare staff can consult prescribed medication in real-time and record each administered dose, thereby minimizing manual work and the risk of errors. The system involves close coordination among nursing staff, the pharmacy department, supervisors, and orderlies.
Individualized doses for each patient are prepared by the pharmacy department, along with the necessary administration materials. The entire process is automatically recorded, ensuring greater control over medication, preventing duplications, and improving communication among professionals.
Digitalization also facilitates the detection of incidents and ensures that medical guidelines are followed with greater precision. Furthermore, the system optimizes resources by better controlling the consumption of materials and medications, reducing waste and improving stock management.
Before its implementation, the involved staff received specific training to adapt to the new operation. This system is already in use in other reference hospitals and is showing good results in terms of safety and quality of care.
