The now-convicted officer, who has admitted to the facts, has been found guilty of fraud, compounded by public official document forgery and private document forgery. In addition to the prison sentence, the court has imposed two fines and a thirteen-month special disqualification from public office.
The events date back to January 15, 2024, when the officer, acting as both investigator and complainant for the Judicial Police of the Torrent station, filed a report claiming his motorcycle had been stolen. However, the officer failed to enter this report into the police's computer systems, instead sending a copy directly to the insurance company.
On March 18 of the same year, the insurer paid him over 13,000 euros as compensation, even though the police officer still had possession of the motorcycle. Later, on March 21, his superior requested that he prepare the official report and submit it to the police databases to continue processing the theft claim.
At this point, the convicted officer took the motorcycle, which he had continued to use after filing the report, to a friend's property, where it remained hidden until July, when other police officers seized it. Before the trial, the officer returned the money to the insurer and covered the legal costs of the criminal proceedings.
The sentence, which is now final, orders the suspension of the prison sentences imposed on the officer for a period of two years, provided he does not commit any further offenses during this time.
