The Paiporta City Council has approved the project for the construction of a new Municipal Sports Pavilion and an outdoor athletics track, a strategic initiative for the municipality's sports infrastructure.
The vote, which took place in the April plenary session, received support from the Compromís and PSOE groups, with abstentions from PP and VOX. This project, covering a total area of 23,304 m², envisions a sports complex integrated with existing facilities, located between the indoor swimming pool and the El Palleter football field.
The new infrastructure will include pedestrian and vehicle access, parking areas with 130 spaces (including spots for people with reduced mobility and electric vehicle charging points), as well as green areas and complementary outdoor spaces. The project will be developed in phases, with the first including the pavilion, surrounding urbanization, parking, and the enclosure of outdoor courts, and a second phase developing the athletics track and green areas.
One of the most notable aspects of the project is its adaptation to climate risk and its resilience to intense rainfall episodes. The design has been carried out according to the criteria of the National System of Flood Zone Cartography (SNCZI) and PATRICOVA, incorporating measures such as raising the ground floor level and secure evacuation systems. In terms of sustainability, a 50.4 kWp photovoltaic installation for self-consumption and efficient climate control systems are included.
The pavilion, which will have two levels, will feature a central multi-sport court for disciplines such as basketball, futsal, volleyball, or badminton, as well as an outdoor classroom on the second floor. It will also include spectator stands, a cafeteria, offices for the Municipal Sports Service, separate changing rooms, storage rooms, and various multipurpose rooms. The athletics track, in the second phase, will have a 200-meter loop and spaces for jumps and throws.
For the design of this new facility, local sports entities were involved through a participatory process developed during the preliminary project phase. The deputy mayor, then the sports councilor, held several working meetings with the clubs to gather their proposals and adapt the initial project to the actual use of the infrastructure.
