These transfers, aimed at compensating for the economic and social impact of the disaster, have been directed towards one of the most fragile population groups. According to data provided by the council, the beneficiaries are residents of the municipality with grade 3 dependency or mobility limitations.
The execution of these payments falls under Royal Decree-Law 7/2024, the state regulation activated to respond to the climate emergency. Specifically, 899,794.40 euros have been distributed, a sum representing almost half of the global subsidy of 1.9 million that the Government of Spain granted to Catarroja for the municipality's recovery.
The local administration has been responsible for managing and processing these files, processes that required a detailed analysis of each beneficiary's situation to ensure that the funds effectively reached the affected households.
“"This population group not only suffered the material damages common to the rest of the citizens, but their dependency condition exponentially increased the risks during the crisis. The constant support these people need and the difficulties in moving around turned the emergency into an especially critical situation for their families."
Beyond the strictly economic aspect, the Social Welfare Department emphasizes that these aids function as a mechanism to acknowledge the vulnerability experienced. The City Council maintains that this line of support is part of a broader shock plan to ensure that post-DANA recovery does not leave behind sectors with less personal autonomy.
