The AIZA boat, a traditional electrified vessel, has become a key tool for the surveillance and conservation of Valencia's Albufera, thanks to a solidarity donation.

This solidarity initiative, which arose from the damage caused by the DANA storm, has allowed the AIZA boat to be delivered to the Devesa-Albufera service of the Valencia City Council. Its incorporation represents a significant advance in the management and protection of this important Valencian wetland.
The donation was made possible thanks to the Iberian Association of Zoos and Aquariums (AIZA), with a prominent role played by the BIOPARC Foundation. Entities such as L’Oceanogràfic, Terra Natura Benidorm, Río Safari Elche, Zoo Barcelona, Sendaviva, Basondo Refugio Fauna Silvestre, and the Acuario de Zaragoza also collaborated in response to the effects of the storm.
The vessel, a traditional 'albuferenca' boat, has been fully restored and electrified after months of work, incorporating an electric motor with the support of IVACE. This system replaces the combustion engine, eliminating emissions, noise, and polluting discharges, thus contributing to the sustainability of the environment.
The boat's design allows access to shallow areas, making it a particularly useful resource for personnel in charge of wetland management. Its functions include lake surveillance, water sample collection for analysis, bird census, and the planning and review of actions on vegetation and channels. Its operational capacity facilitates the simultaneous execution of tasks, reducing intervention times and improving the efficiency of conservation efforts.
The involved entities highlight the value of this project as an example of collaborative solidarity and commitment to the environment, combining cultural heritage and technology for the protection of one of the most important natural areas in the Valencian territory.
