Teachers wearing green t-shirts and vests protested outside the Palau de la Música in Valencia, where the event was taking place, as part of the fourth week of an indefinite strike in non-university public education in the Valencian Community. Their demands included the resignation of Pérez Llorca and the Minister of Education, Carmen Ortí, for their handling of the conflict.
The demonstrators chanted slogans such as 'Pérez Llorca, dimissió' and 'Consellera, dimissió', directed at the regional government officials, and 'Vergonya' and 'Escola ensenya que no es pega' towards the National Police officers deployed. They also displayed signs with slogans like 'Docent en vaga' (Teacher on strike) or 'Llorca moniato'.
Criticism towards the police follows an incident last Sunday, where an officer pushed a woman during a protest in front of the Ministry of Education. The National Police have initiated disciplinary proceedings against the officer involved, and the woman has filed a complaint.
The shouts and whistles at the Palau de la Música entrance intensified with the president's arrival around 6:30 PM, as he entered the complex by car. Upon his departure, teachers called for 'public and quality education'.
Inside the event, during the speech by the regional secretary for Universities, Esther Gómez, several audience members urged the president to 'sit down and dialogue with the teachers'. A banner was unfurled, drawing applause from some attendees, despite the presenter's plea for 'respect'.
A student representing the award recipients advocated for public university as a space for 'plurality, debate, and excellence', and called for 'a more dignified future for all'. Afterwards, members of the 'Nacho Duato' Higher Dance Conservatory of Valencia (CSDV) performed and wore vests with the slogan 'CSDV Dignitat' (CSDV Dignity).
Another student, from the Polytechnic University of Valencia (UPV), thanked the Generalitat and the Ministry of Education for promoting these awards. Some students received their accolades from authorities, including the head of the Consell, while wearing the teachers' green protest t-shirt.
