The Bancaja Foundation is organizing the 56th edition of the traditional Ronda a la Mare de Déu concert next Monday, May 11 in València, concluding the festive events in honor of the city's patron saint.

This cultural event, which has the collaboration of the Diputació de València, the Institut Valencià de Cultura (IVC), and CaixaBank, as well as the support of the València City Council, will be conducted by Cristóbal Soler, director of the València Municipal Symphonic Band.
Musically, the València Municipal Symphonic Band, the Orfeó Valencià, tenor Vicente Ombuena, and soprano Carmen Avivar will participate. The dances will be performed by the Grup de Danses Alimara de la SC El Micalet, which will present pieces such as Malaguenya de Monòver, a fandango variant from Vinalopó Mitjà, and Pedregruera de Benissa, a popular seguidilla from Marina Alta.
The musical repertoire includes notable works such as Pepita Greus by Pascual Pérez Chovi, Sanctus Turc by Josep Lluís Valldecabres, Ave Maria by Charles Gounod, and excerpts from zarzuelas like El último romántico. Bella enamorada by Reveriano Soutullo and Juan Vert, and the Mazurka de las sombrillas from Luisa Fernanda by Moreno Torroba. Also featured will be Prince Igor, from Alexander Borodin's Polovtsian Dances. The concert will conclude with València canta by José Serrano, the Himne de la Coronació by Luis Romeu, and the Himne de la Comunitat Valenciana by José Serrano.
The first edition of the Ronda a la Mare de Déu took place on May 13, 1968, promoted by the Caja de Ahorros y Monte de Piedad de Valencia to commemorate its 90th anniversary. Since then, the València Municipal Symphonic Band has been a key element in all editions, with conductors such as José Ferriz, Joan Garcés, Julio Ribelles, Pablo Sánchez Torrella, Fernando Bonete, Rafael Sanz-Espert, Miguel Rodrigo, and the current Cristóbal Soler. The Orfeó Valencià, initially known as Orfeó Navarro Reverter, has also participated since the beginning, under the direction of Jesús Ribera Faig and, since 1986, Josep Lluís Valldecabres. Regional dances were incorporated into the Ronda in 1991.
