Residents in the rural areas of Agost, in l'Alacantí, are protesting the lack of waste bins, which forces them to travel to the urban center to dispose of their rubbish.

The situation has led some neighbors to refuse to pay the waste collection fee or to file appeals against the administration. The Agost City Council began charging this fee four years ago, but without installing the corresponding bins in these areas.

"I have not paid and will not pay until they provide me with a bin."

A resident of the Campet district, whose nearest bin is more than seven kilometers from their home, is one of the people who has refused to pay the fee. Other residents of scattered homes demand to be exempted from payment and have appealed to the ombudsman, considering the distance excessive.

"The service is not provided to me; I have to take the bag and bring it down to the town every day."

Another resident has chosen to file an administrative dispute. Their son, a councilor for the City Council, criticizes the council's lack of response to the requests sent.
The City Council has announced that within a month and a half, two waste bin islands will be installed in these areas to serve residents. One of these islands will be located in the Campet area and the other in a different zone. Furthermore, the council reminds that affected residents receive a 25% discount on the fee, which means an annual payment of 52 euros for waste collection.
