The Júcar Hydrographic Confederation (CHJ) is finalizing emergency works in several ravines severely affected by the DANA storm on October 29, 2024, with a total investment of 7.5 million euros, aiming to improve hydraulic management and reduce flood risks.

The interventions, now in their final phase, have been carried out in the l'Horteta, Gallego, Pozalet ravines, and other tributaries of l'Albufera. These works have been coordinated with the municipalities of Torrent, Chiva, Riba-roja de Túria, Loriguilla, Alginet, and Alcàsser, with all pending tasks expected to be completed by next June.
In the l'Horteta ravine and its tributaries Peque and Saurí, works are well advanced, covering nearly four kilometers of the riverbed. Actions have included removing rocks, debris, and accumulated materials, as well as widening the channel at strategic points to optimize water flow. Additionally, the CHJ has completed the adaptation of the old Torrent quarry, which will serve as a controlled water storage area during flood events, thanks to the construction of a lateral spillway.
Meanwhile, in the Gallego ravine, located between Chiva and Torrent, a priority action was undertaken after this point was identified as the origin of the overflow during the DANA. The riverbed, which was completely clogged, has been excavated and reconstructed, with approximately 20,000 cubic meters of material removed.
In the Pozalet ravine, as it passes through Loriguilla, cleaning and reinforcement works have already been completed, awaiting a complementary municipal action. Similarly, in the La Reva industrial estate in Riba-roja de Túria, the CHJ has intervened in the lamination ponds, which were completely clogged after the DANA. These works will increase their capacity by about 45,000 cubic meters, improving their water storage and evacuation function.
Through these actions, the Júcar Hydrographic Confederation aims not only to restore damaged riverbeds but also to strengthen prevention against future intense rainfall events in one of the most vulnerable areas surrounding l'Albufera.
