Compromís in Sagunto has called for the commemoration of April 25th as a key date for Valencian historical memory, noting that the municipal government approved a motion last year to study its institutional celebration.

The spokesperson for Compromís in the Sagunto City Council highlighted that this day represents a historic date in defense of Valencian culture and language, recalling the loss of the Furs with the arrival of Philip V. According to the spokesperson, erasing this date from the institutional calendar is a political decision that deactivates the profound meaning of our identity, which is paramount in today's increasingly global world.
The Compromís representative criticized that the Popular Party and Vox have eliminated this commemoration and also regretted that the PSOE has not promoted the celebration approved in plenary, which, in their opinion, contributes to its invisibilization.

The Valencian nationalists will actively participate this weekend in the Correllengua Agermanat, a race that crosses various shared language territories carrying a symbolic flame. The initiative, which has already passed through Perpignan and will continue through Catalonia, the Valencian Country, and the Balearic Islands until reaching Alghero, will make a stop in Sagunto this Saturday, April 25th. The gathering will take place in the morning in the Plaça de la Moreria and is organized by Intersindical Valenciana, the Coordinadora per l’Ensenyament en Valencià, the Diabòlica de Morvedre, and Correllengua volunteers.
Compromís has insisted on the need for the City Council to fulfill the commitment made in the motion approved a year ago. The party believes that the local executive has shown “zero interest” in remembering an event that marked, they argue, a turning point in the history of the Valencian people. They also regretted that there are no updates regarding the other point included in that motion, which referred to the preparation of a report on the degree of compliance with the Linguistic Use Regulations in municipal social media profiles.
