Quart de les Valls has been, in recent weeks, the setting for an educational and social initiative that seeks to keep the memory of the past alive and transmit it to new generations. The Historical Memory Association 'El Molí' and IES La Vall de Segó have launched a collaboration that aims to consolidate over time and become an annual event for the school's students.
The proposal has materialized in two complementary activities that have allowed 4th year ESO students to delve into democratic memory in a direct and experiential way. The first of these took place on March 30. Two groups of students attended the screening of the documentary Refuges and Refugees, produced by the 'El Molí' Association. The event was held in the Coexistence Hall of the Quart de les Valls Town Hall and served as a starting point for an experience that would continue with a very special visit: the municipality's anti-aircraft shelter. This visit was made possible thanks to the collaboration of its owners, who opened the doors of this space full of history and symbolism.
The second activity was carried out on Friday, April 17, at IES La Vall de Segó. Under the title Living Testimonies, Living Memory, the day featured a presentation and a subsequent colloquium that generated an intense and enriching space for dialogue with the students. Participants included individuals with trajectories marked by the anti-Franco struggle and clandestine resistance during the 1970s. In one case, the testimony also provided a personal dimension linked to family memory, as he is the grandson of a victim executed by the Franco regime.
The speakers shared experiences often little known, but fundamental to understanding an important part of recent history. Their interventions opened the door to questions, reflections, and debate among the young attendees, who actively participated in the session.
“"They allow connecting the past with the present and fostering a more critical and conscious citizenry."
The 'El Molí' Association has expressed gratitude for the involvement of IES La Vall de Segó and its commitment to historical and democratic memory as an educational tool. They have also highlighted the importance of continuing to create spaces like these.
