Orihuela's historic center was adorned to celebrate Museum Night, a prominent event on the city's cultural calendar. The initiative highlighted Orihuela's significant museum heritage, filling the central streets with numerous citizens and tourists who took the opportunity to discover or rediscover the cultural legacy of the capital of the Baix Segura region.
The Church of Santo Domingo, the Miguel Hernández House-Museum, the Holy Week Museum, the Diocesan Museum of Sacred Art, the Cathedral, the Chapel of Loreto, the City Hall, the Wall Museum, and the Reconquista Museum were the participating venues. These institutions opened with special hours and free admission, allowing attendees to access cultural gems such as Velázquez's ‘The Temptation of Saint Thomas’ at the Diocesan Museum, or the Cathedral's artistic richness.
Visitor turnout was notable at all venues. At some points, such as the City Hall or the Wall Museum, queues formed due to capacity restrictions. The Plaza del Salvador attracted a large crowd interested in the Diocesan Museum and the Cathedral. Also highlighted were the Church of Santo Domingo for its elaborate decoration, and the Miguel Hernández House-Museum as a place to learn about the poet's life.
Local festivals also played a significant role. The Holy Week Museum and the Reconquista Museum received many visitors amazed by the processional imagery, banners, and festive costumes. Music accompanied the event, with performances by the Ginés Pérez de la Parra brass quintet at the gates of La Merced and a music band at Los Pozos del Cremós.
In addition to the visits, Museum Night included various complementary activities. Theatrical performances such as ‘La Menina despierta’ in the Cathedral Cloister, ‘El Eco de Miguel’ at the House-Museum, ‘La Tentación de Santo Tomás’ at the gate of the chains, and ‘La Noche de las Palabras’ in front of the City Hall were staged. Creative workshops were also organized in Plaza Ramón Sijé. Costumed characters roamed the itinerary, adding a magical atmosphere to the Orihuela night.
