This seismic episode, registered by the National Geographic Institute (IGN), has caused concern among residents and was felt in numerous surrounding municipalities, both in the province of Valencia and Alicante.
The largest earthquake, of 3.5 magnitude, was recorded at 08:23 hours at a depth of 7 kilometers, with a maximum intensity level of III-IV. Minutes earlier, at 08:25 hours, another earthquake of 2.5 magnitude had already occurred, also with intensity III-IV.
Seismic activity began with tremors during the early morning, including one of 2.1 magnitude at 07:25 hours, and other smaller movements around 06:41, 06:08, and 05:48 hours. All these earthquakes were located in the vicinity of Ontinyent and Vallada, indicating continuous activity.
The tremor was felt over a wide area, especially in Ontinyent, where intensity levels of III-IV were recorded in urbanizations such as El Pilar and Les Aigües. It was also perceived in towns like Vallada, Agres, Albaida, Alfarrasí, Banyeres de Mariola, Bèlgida, Beneixama, Bocairent, La Font de la Figuera, l'Olleria, Onil, Aielo de Malferit, Alcoy, Elda, l'Alcúdia de Crespins, Moixent, Muro, and Xàtiva. Even outside the Valencian Community, the movement was felt in localities such as Albacete and Almansa.
According to Emergencies de la Generalitat, the emergency telephone received five calls related to this episode. So far, no personal injuries or material damages have been reported, although the succession of tremors has caused concern.
