Tavernes de la Valldigna will host the International Roma People's Day for the first time on Saturday, April 11, 2026, with a festive and commemorative event in Plaça 9 d'Octubre.

This initiative, promoted by the Tavernes de la Valldigna City Council, primarily aims to foster values of inclusion, equality, and coexistence among all citizens. The celebration is part of the commemoration of International Roma People's Day, observed every April 8 since 1990, recalling the First World Romani Congress held in London on April 8, 1971, where the community's flag and anthem were established.
For the organization of this inaugural edition, Mayor Lara Romero, Festival Councilor Carlos Torres, and Social Services Councilor Amparo Bo have met with representatives of the local Roma community. These meetings served to gather ideas and proposals, emphasizing the importance of giving visibility to the community and strengthening ties with the municipality.

"It's about supporting them and giving them the space they deserve. In our town, everyone is equal, and the intention is for it to be a day of brotherhood, coexistence, and celebration, open to everyone, to get to know and enjoy a very special day together."

Lara Romero · Mayor of Tavernes de la Valldigna
Festival Councilor Carlos Torres highlighted the relevance of this event for Tavernes, as it recognizes the culture and history of the Roma people as an essential part of local society. For her part, Amparo Bo, Social Services Councilor, announced that the program will combine tradition, music, and coexistence, aiming to be a space for enjoyment and reflection on equal opportunities among cultures.

"This celebration represents a very important step for Tavernes, because we recognize the culture and history of the Roma people as an essential part of our society. We want an open, diverse, and inclusive city, where all people feel represented and respected."

Carlos Torres · Festival Councilor of Tavernes de la Valldigna
The festive day will begin at 6 PM with various musical performances. The flamenco dance group Raíces will open the evening, followed by the duo La Leyenda del Tiempo (Pasión Flamenca), and concluding with the performance of Juanvi Plaza & La Polvarea. Finally, at 9 PM, a popular tasting of roast chicken will be offered to all attendees.
