Gandia was the setting last Thursday for the 8th SaforPol meeting, an initiative that promotes coordination and cooperation among the local police forces of the Safor region. The event, which originated in this very city in 2022, returned to the municipality for its eighth edition.
The day began with an institutional welcome from the Mayor of Gandia, José Manuel Prieto, and the Councilor for Protection, Security, and Coexistence of the City Council, Lydia Morant. Both authorities expressed their interest in learning firsthand about the initiative's functioning and greeted the attendees.
Representatives from 17 local police forces in Safor participated in the meeting: Barx, Bellreguard, Beniarjó, Benifairó de la Valldigna, Beniflà, Benirredrà, la Font d’en Carròs, Gandia, Oliva, Palma de Gandia, Palmera, Rafelcofer, Simat de la Valldigna, Tavernes de la Valldigna, Vilallonga, Xeraco, and Xeresa.
The event also included the participation of the Guardia Civil Company of Gandia, led by its commanding officer, Eloy Sánchez, along with commanders from the posts in Tavernes and Oliva, and representatives from specialties such as Arms Intervention and Seprona.
Participants addressed common issues of interest for security forces, including local security plans and protocols for action against gender violence. These discussions served to strengthen institutional coordination among the various administrations and police forces.
José Martínez Espasa, chief commissioner of the Gandia Local Police, highlighted the consolidation of SaforPol as 'a firm commitment to local security and public service.' He emphasized the initiative's relevance with the upcoming summer campaign, local festivities, large-scale events, and associated urban mobility.
The next meeting of Safor's local police forces will be held after the summer in another town within the region. This gathering will serve to review the summer season, evaluate the implemented operations, and outline future challenges in security and police coordination.
