The town of Foios, located in l'Horta Nord, has joined the 'Viles en Flor' 2026 program, coinciding with the centenary of its emblematic Alameda park, a development that promotes the improvement of municipal green spaces.

Foios has officially joined the 'Viles en Flor' program for the 2026 edition. This initiative, organized by the Professional Association of Flowers, Plants, and Horticultural Technology of the Valencian Community (ASFPLANT), recognizes the significance of the municipality's plant heritage, particularly highlighting Plaza de España, known as the Alameda, which this year celebrates its first centenary as an urban green lung.
The Councilor for Environment, Agriculture, and Sustainability of the Foios City Council, Amparo Pérez, emphasized the importance of participating in this event to showcase the local green heritage's richness and diversity. Pérez underscored the need to raise citizen awareness about the significance of vegetation, especially in the current climate context, which is expected to become increasingly extreme.
According to Pérez, participation in 'Viles en Flor' will serve to conduct a detailed assessment of the current state of green spaces in Foios. This will enable the design of a master plan and the establishment of a roadmap for implementing effective local policies aimed at improving and expanding the municipality's green areas.
For the first time, the jury of the 'Viles en Flor' program visited Foios's various green spaces. They made special mention of the Alameda park, a historic garden reaching its centenary this year and considered a vital space for the town. The Mayor of Foios, Sergi Ruiz, recalled that the Alameda was a revolutionary park due to its large size at the time of its construction, considering the town's size then.
Through this affiliation, the Foios City Council aims not only to enhance the town's natural and landscape richness but also to foster greater public awareness about the value of the natural and garden spaces that are part of residents' daily lives.
Foios, situated in l'Horta Nord and surrounded by farmland, boasts a significant heritage of garden areas within its urban center. Notable among these spaces are the Alameda, Rei en Jaume park, Plaza Alqueries, and Plaza Clara Campoamor. Additionally, the municipality features numerous tree-lined promenades, such as the renovated Paseo Alcalde José Ros Lacruz (south ring road), Avenida del Mediterráneo, and Calle Yutera. Its rich rural heritage extends to the beach, offering paths to enjoy the local flora.
