This event, now in its fifth year, offers an opportunity to acquire books at popular prices, donated by citizens, and contribute to a social cause. All proceeds from book sales will be entirely donated to ASTEA SAFOR, an association of families of people with Autism Spectrum Disorder, which seeks to promote a more inclusive world with equal opportunities.
The fair will be open in the morning, from 10:00h to 14:00h, and as a novelty this year, also in the afternoon, from 17:00h to 19:30h, to reach a larger number of participants. In addition to book sales, various activities have been scheduled for all ages. During the morning, there will be open children's workshops between 11:30h and 13:30h. Students of Corporal Expression from the UPG will present a display of their work starting at 11:00h, and bobbin lace students from the UPG will give a live demonstration to showcase this traditional craft.
In the afternoon, from 18:00h, Sanguinel·li will present the storytelling session Desitjos (Wishes), which will be complemented by a children's mask workshop, also open to all children who come to Plaça de l'Escola Pia.
One of the highlights of the day will be the solidarity lunch, taking place at 14:00h in Plaça Loreto. The renowned Chef Amadeo will prepare a fideuá, and tickets, priced at 10€, include the fideuá, a small appetizer, and a drink. Of this amount, 6€ from each ticket will also be donated to ASTEA SAFOR. Tickets can be purchased at the UPG or through ASTEA until capacity is reached, and will only be sold on the day itself if any remain available.
“"It is our responsibility, as a public administration and as a local entity close to our citizens, to give visibility to associations like ASTEA to build a world with equal opportunities for all people."
The Councillor for Education emphasized that this event reflects the essence of the Popular University of Gandia as a project of cultural development and social participation, with a significant solidarity aspect. The director of the UPG has invited all citizens to participate in the event, which serves to celebrate Book Day and bring reading, art, and culture closer to everyone, promoting the reuse of books. From ASTEA SAFOR, its president thanked the support of the Gandia City Council and the UPG, and announced that they will have a table at the fair to publicize their work and raise awareness about Autism Spectrum Disorder.
