The Valencianist party aims for the Generalitat Valenciana to apply the State Housing Law and declare Gandia a 'stressed area,' a measure that would allow limiting abusive rent increases and stabilizing prices.
The spokesperson for Compromís más Gandía, Esther Sapena, has warned that the housing situation has become an "authentic social emergency" affecting more and more families, workers, and young people. "Many people are dedicating a disproportionate part of their salary to pay rent, and many young people cannot become independent or build their life project in their own city. Living in Gandía cannot become a luxury," she stated.
The party recalls that rental prices have continuously increased in recent years, while salaries have not grown at the same pace, causing an "unsustainable" situation for a significant portion of the population. Recent data places Gandía among the Valencian cities with the highest rent price increases, with increments that in some cases have exceeded 20% in the last three months.
Compromís considers it essential for the Generalitat to activate the mechanisms provided for in state legislation to protect citizens from the price escalation. "Declaring Gandía a stressed area would allow limiting abusive rent increases, providing market stability, and offering more tools to local councils to act against the housing emergency," explained the spokesperson.
The campaign includes street information actions, social media dissemination, and a signature collection open to all citizens. "We want this demand to be a collective voice. Housing is a right, not a business for a few while so many people struggle to make ends meet," concluded Sapena.
