Patricia Puerta, spokesperson for the PSPV, highlighted the «continuous demagoguery» of the PP-Vox government in Castelló, stating that their housing actions «do not translate into anything». According to Puerta, housing has had a «null presence» in the budgets approved by the local executive.
The socialist spokesperson noted that, after an «empty year» in 2025, the municipal budgets for 2026 have only allocated 44,000 euros for housing. To address this «deception by the PP», the socialist group presented a series of amendments in December totaling almost 2.5 million euros in this area.
Among the PSPV's proposals was to raise the social rental aid allocation from 9,000 euros to 289,000 euros, youth rental from 5,000 euros to 200,000 euros, and social housing rehabilitation from 10,000 euros to 500,000 euros. Additionally, a new allocation of 500,000 euros was proposed for an accessibility and rehabilitation plan for homes over 50 years old, and to increase the allocation for acquiring social housing to one million euros, which is currently only 10,000 euros.
“"All these amendments were rejected by PP and Vox, who have made it clear month after month how little or nothing they care about one of the main concerns of our city, because any motion we have presented in the plenary on this matter has always met with their vote against."
This context is complicated, as a report by the appraisal company Tinsa by Accumin and Accumin Intelligence places Castelló among the 20 provinces in Spain where greater effort is required to purchase new housing. A Castelló household must allocate almost half of its income to pay the first year of a mortgage. Furthermore, Castelló de la Plana is the eighth city in the country where housing prices have appreciated the most in the last year.
The PSPV insists on the urgency of acting and allocating the remaining funds to real policies that facilitate access to housing, especially for young people and families, recalling the «scandalous management of VPO in Alicante» as a model of the PP.
