The fire, detected shortly after 6 PM, mobilized two ground units and one helicopter-borne unit of forest firefighters from the Generalitat Valenciana. Additionally, two fire engines and a crew from the Provincial Fire Consortium of Valencia were dispatched to the area, according to sources from the Emergency Coordination Center. Three aerial resources and an environmental agent also collaborated in the extinction efforts.
Residents of the area were the first to report the presence of smoke to 112. The mayor of Alzira, Alfons Domínguez, confirmed that by approximately 7:30 PM, the fire was under control. Presumably, the origin was a poorly extinguished agricultural burn that spread to the mountain.
Fortunately, the humidity level from recent rains and the swift action of emergency services allowed the situation to be controlled before it could spread in a high-risk area, which includes both homes and abundant forest mass. The city council will investigate whether the burn had the corresponding permit.
It is worth noting that this area contains numerous dry pine trees due to a massive tree mortality episode caused by the prolonged drought that occurred before the DANA. The most affected area is the access to Valletes de Gallo and the sunny slope of the Aigües Vives valley, an extension of just over seven hectares where many specimens have dried up, significantly increasing the risk of fire.
