This decision, supported by the new regulations approved in the VIII Fallas Congress, sets a precedent in the history of Alzira's Fallas. Until now, the election was carried out by the vote of the presidents of the Fallas commissions, but the presence of several aspirants has activated the new regulations.
The electoral process will officially open with the candidate submission period, which will begin at midnight on Tuesday. For now, former president Bernardo Cortés and Luis Gisbert have already publicly confirmed their intention to run, anticipating an electoral contest.
The voting day will take place on the last Sunday of April, from 9 AM to 8 PM. The JLF headquarters will set up one polling station for every thousand Fallas members eligible to vote. All Fallas members over 18 years old who were registered in the 2025/26 period will be able to participate. Once voting concludes, the count will proceed on the same day, which will be attended by the presidents of all commissions and the delegates of the JLF.
On Tuesday the 7th, the term of the current president, Paqui Vallés, will close, as she had already announced that she would not seek re-election. After this closure, a five-working-day period will open for candidate submissions. Subsequently, there will be ten calendar days for the election campaign, during which aspirants can present their programs at a meeting with the commission presidents, convened by the general secretary of the JLF.
The Fallas census of Alzira, on the eve of the past festivities, registered 7,144 adults and more than 1,500 children. Participation in this first experience of universal suffrage among Fallas members over 18 years old is an unknown, but it represents a significant step in the democratization of the election of the JLF presidency.
