The Algemesí City Council continues its municipal pest control plan, with preventive actions and treatments against the tiger mosquito and other species, especially given the rise in temperatures and rainfall.

Actions are carried out in the sewage network, in some sections of the Xúquer River, and in public buildings, with the aim of reducing the presence of these insects and minimizing their effects on the population. Recent rains and rising temperatures can favor the appearance of new breeding grounds, which is why the larvicide treatment campaign has been activated.
This monitoring plan remains active throughout the year, with work carried out three days a month, in addition to specific requirements. Typically, actions begin in April and extend until October. This year, the first actions were carried out on April 9, 10, and 14, while the next ones are scheduled for May 18, 19, and 20.
Treatments focus especially on risk points such as storm drains and areas with stagnant water, where the proliferation of this insect is more likely. The City Council also emphasizes the importance of citizen collaboration in prevention, both in public and private spaces.

"Prevention is key to controlling the proliferation of the tiger mosquito, especially during periods when climatic conditions favor its expansion. Therefore, it is essential to maintain active treatments throughout the year, carry out continuous surveillance, and count on citizen involvement in the detection and elimination of possible breeding grounds."

It is recommended to avoid the accumulation of water in containers or decorative elements, maintain the humidity of flowers or opt for artificial flowers, as well as inform the council if possible breeding grounds are detected. In addition to the tiger mosquito, the municipal plan includes control actions against other pests in different areas of the municipality, such as municipal buildings, educational centers, and dog parks, in order to preserve public health and improve environmental quality.
