The figure of Pedro Bayarri Benedito, the only Navy Minister from the province of Castellón, is the focus of an exhibition at the Real Club Náutico de Castellón, which recovers his historical importance.

Despite his relevance, Pedro Bayarri Benedito, born in Benicarló in 1803 and a deputy for Castellón, has no references in the capital of La Plana, although he does have a square dedicated to him in Vila-real. His trajectory is explored in the exhibition 'Castellón and the Sea', which can be visited in the Xaloc hall of the Real Club Náutico de Castellón.
This exhibition, organized by the Subdelegación de Defensa, documents Castellón's numerous connections to the sea, with materials from the Bermúdez de Castro Military Classroom. Bayarri's story is one of the central themes of this documentary collection.
After studying Law at the University of Valencia, Pedro Bayarri opened an office in Vila-real, a town with which he had family ties through his mother's side. His political life was marked by the Carlist Wars, especially the first (1833-1840), which affected the province of Castellón.
During this period, liberal authorities in municipalities like Vila-real were purged and expelled by Carlist forces. Bayarri himself was banished, along with the mayor of Vila-real, Domingo Chillida, by the Carlist brigadier Joaquín Llorens Bayer.
His political career evolved from the Progressive Party towards positions close to Leopoldo O'Donnell's Liberal Union. He served as commander of the National Militia and was a member of the Revolutionary Junta of Castellón in 1854, the year the progressives came to power after the military uprising known as the 'Vicalvarada'.
Pedro Bayarri Benedito served as a deputy for the constituency of Castellón in two periods (1854-1856 and 1858-1859) and held the position of secretary of the Congress. The peak of his career was his appointment as Navy Minister between July 14 and October 12, 1856, in O'Donnell's first government cabinet.
During his brief tenure at the head of the Navy portfolio, he promoted reforms in the Naval Museum of Madrid, creating new sections and expanding the library. The following year, he was appointed Toga Minister of the Supreme Court of War and Navy. He died in Madrid on June 25, 1859.
