The Valencia Provincial Council has allocated over 1.5 million euros for forest management and fire prevention in the regions of Requena-Utiel, La Hoya de Buñol-Chiva, and Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora, aiming to simplify bureaucracy and enhance the effectiveness of actions.

The president of the Provincial Council, Vicent Mompó, presented the new call for subsidies from the Environment Department to the mayors of the province. This annual program, known as Gestifoc, has been redesigned to streamline its operations as much as possible.

"We continue to consolidate a more useful, more intelligent way of understanding public action, connected with the reality of our town councils."

In the Valle de Cofrentes-Ayora, the total allocation from the Environment Department amounts to 565,187 euros, to be distributed among the seven municipalities in the region. Meanwhile, Utiel-Requena will receive 558,265 euros for its nine town councils, and La Hoya de Buñol-Chiva, 462,714 euros in total.
The allocation of funds to each town council has been carried out according to a technical scale that considers, among other aspects, the size of the municipality (prioritizing smaller ones), forest area, the existence of forest or fire prevention plans, and the presence of protected natural areas or public utility forests.
The most significant novelty of the 2026 edition of Gestifoc, with a global budget of 8 million euros, is the halving of bureaucracy, as explained by deputy Avelino Mascarell. This simplification will allow for more agile management by town councils and faster execution of preventive actions.
Furthermore, the Environment Department has brought forward the call for these subsidies to March, three months earlier than in the previous year, to allow actions to start sooner and improve their preventive impact. The program includes two lines of action: 2 million euros for municipalities owning forests for forest management work, and 6 million euros for fire prevention infrastructures, such as firebreaks and improvements to forest roads.
