The police operation resulted in the arrest of three individuals who subjected victims to extreme conditions of unsanitary living and semi-slavery in the towns of Venta del Moro, Tous, and Náquera.
The investigation, initiated after detecting a possible trafficking situation in Náquera and Tous, uncovered a dramatic reality in Venta del Moro. There, the Civil Guard located a massive group of citizens of Nepalese and Indian nationality living in an environment of absolute squalor. The affected individuals reported conditions of extreme overcrowding, with up to 60 people in a single room, lack of basic services such as hot water and electricity, and malnutrition.
The victims, aged between 21 and 41, stated they were subjected to workdays of up to 18 hours daily without rest and without receiving any remuneration, as the detainees withheld their entire salaries. They were constantly subjected to coercion and threats. For the taking of statements, the Civil Guard required the intervention of Nepalese and Indian interpreters due to language barriers.
The police intervention culminated in the arrest of two men of Pakistani nationality (aged 30 and 49) and one Spanish citizen (aged 51), considered the main ringleaders of the organization. The owner of one of the properties was also arrested for coercion. The court has ordered provisional imprisonment for two of the main suspects.
The members of the criminal network are charged with serious offenses including human trafficking for labor exploitation, crimes against workers' rights, against the rights of foreign citizens, coercion, threats, and belonging to a criminal group. The proceedings have been handed over to the courts of the judicial district of Alzira and Requena.
