The Termet pool in Vila-real will open this year from June 1 to September 15, significantly extending the usual period of use for this municipal facility. This decision responds to requests from the city's sports clubs and the aim to provide public spaces as climate refuges in the face of rising temperatures.
The Councilor for Sports, Xus Madrigal, highlighted the department's commitment to active listening to address the needs of citizens and clubs. "The extension of the opening period is a sign of the government team's sensitivity to a climatic reality that makes public spaces for safe cooling increasingly necessary," he stated.
The extended calendar will allow both clubs and citizens to enjoy the pool for a longer period than in previous seasons, when opening was concentrated between mid-June and the end of August. Additionally, the City Council is carrying out improvements in the picnic area and has advanced the 'Shade Plan' to create new climate refuges and enhance user comfort.
An extraordinary Local Government Board has also approved the update of the pool's rates, prices that had not been modified since the facility reopened in 2013. A day ticket will cost 3 euros for children under 13 and 5 euros for those over that age. For 10-use passes, the price will be 22 euros for those under 13 and 37 euros for those over 13. Madrigal defended that "an update was necessary after more than a decade with the same rates" and emphasized that the new prices "continue to be very competitive and are comparable to those applied in nearby municipalities."
Public prices include reductions for specific groups, such as holders of the Carnet Jove (Youth Card), recipients of widowhood, orphanhood, and non-contributory pensions, individuals unemployed for over two years, people with a disability of 33% or more, and members of large or single-parent families, who will pay 75% of the general rate. Victims of gender-based violence and individuals included in social aid, rehabilitation, or reintegration programs, upon proposal from municipal Social Services, will not have to pay an entrance fee.
