Unemployment in Castellón Soars to 12.19% in First Quarter

The unemployment rate in the province of Castellón has seen a significant increase, surpassing 12% and indicating a drop in the number of employed individuals.

The province of Castellón has witnessed its unemployment rate climb to 12.19% during the first quarter of the year, according to data from the Active Population Survey (EPA) released today.

This percentage represents a notable increase compared to the 9.71% recorded in the previous quarter of 2025. The year-on-year comparison also shows a rise, as the rate was 11.32% in the same period last year.
The EPA figures also reflect a decrease in the number of employed individuals, now standing at 283,600, down from 290,700 in the previous quarter. By sector, Services remains the primary employment driver, with 186,600 workers, accounting for 65% of the total. Industry employs 63,800 people, Construction 24,600, and Agriculture 8,700.
At the autonomous community level, unemployment in the Valencian Community increased by 41,300 people during the first quarter, reaching 327,800 unemployed, which is 14.4% more than in the preceding quarter. Despite the rise in unemployment, the Community saw 8,800 jobs lost (a 0.4% decrease from the previous quarter), bringing the total number of employed people to 2,461,700, the highest employment figure for a first quarter since records began.
