Residents of Onda's El Castillo neighborhood now have a new pedestrian passage between Granada and Murcia streets, thanks to the demolition of an old electrical transformer that had been an urban barrier in Miguel Hernández Square.
This action is part of the Onda Bonica urban beautification plan and responds to a historical neighborhood demand. With this intervention, the City Council gains a new pedestrian route in a highly transited area for both residents and visitors, while also enhancing safety and accessibility in the surroundings.
The work included the complete demolition of the old electrical tower, the removal of the transformer, and the relocation of wiring by the utility company, which has completely freed up this space in the neighborhood.
The new stairs overcome the existing elevation difference between both streets and create a more comfortable and safe route for pedestrians. Additionally, the intervention contributes to beautifying and expanding Miguel Hernández Square, which was already part of the initial actions promoted within the Onda Bonica program.
Since 2019, the Onda Bonica program has transformed more than 40 urban spaces in the municipality that were degraded, with actions aimed at improving the city's image, promoting accessibility, and highlighting local ceramics as a distinctive element in the works promoted by the council. According to the municipal government, this project reflects its commitment to the continuous improvement of the urban environment and the recovery of spaces for neighborhood use in all areas of the town.
