A new fire has broken out at the Reciplasa waste treatment plant in Onda, generating a large smoke plume visible from several municipalities and mobilizing an extensive firefighting operation.

The Castellón Provincial Firefighters have been working intensely since Sunday afternoon to contain a fire affecting the Onda waste plant. The blaze, which started around 5:45 PM, has caused a large column of smoke visible from the town and from neighboring municipalities such as Castelló, Vila-real, and Burriana.
According to information from the Provincial Fire Consortium, the fire is quite developed and is affecting part of the plant's recycling material. As a preventive measure, several homes in the Bovalar area have been evacuated due to the potential impact of the smoke. Sources close to the situation indicate that the affected warehouses may have suffered catastrophic damage.

"A Local Operational Coordination Center (Cecopal) has already been established, and all involved parties are currently meeting."

To tackle the emergency, eight fire brigades have been mobilized: seven from four different parks (Plana Baixa, Espadà Millars, Baix Maestrat, and l'Alcalatén), in addition to a command unit and a leadership unit. Three units of forest firefighters from the Generalitat and two articulated tanker trucks, each with a capacity of 35,000 liters, have also joined the effort.
It is worth noting that this waste plant has experienced fires on several past occasions, with the last significant one occurring in September 2024, which required an entire night to bring under control.
