The Generalitat is progressing with the renovation of the Port of Burriana, with several actions already completed and a new intervention underway to transform the old shipyard into a modern and accessible public square for citizens.

The Consell announced during an institutional visit to the municipality that the main objective is to strengthen the integration of the port into the urban environment and consolidate it as a more sustainable space connected to the city. This initiative seeks to open the port to the public without abandoning the port's own activity.
The third vice-president and regional minister of Environment, Infrastructures and Territory, Vicente Martínez Mus, visited Burriana accompanied by the regional secretary of Environment, Sabina Goretti Galindo; the general director of Coasts, Ports and Airports, Marc García Manzana; and the mayor of the town, Jorge Monferrer. During the visit, Martínez Mus highlighted the actions promoted in this legislature, including the adaptation of the port area, the improvement of access roads, and the creation of a new roundabout to manage traffic.
The intervention in the access roads involved an investment of 619,781.79 euros, which has improved road safety at one of the main entry points to the port. Additionally, a photovoltaic installation has been put into operation, making Burriana the first regional port with this type of operational infrastructure.

"Burriana is paving the way towards a more sustainable and efficient port model. The Generalitat is already extending these types of actions to other ports in the Community with the support of European funds."

This installation improves the energy efficiency of the site, reduces consumption, and contributes to the decarbonization of port facilities. As part of this strategy, the Generalitat is implementing solar panels in other ports of the Valencian Community, such as Benicarló, Peñíscola, Xàbia, Altea, Villajoyosa, and Santa Pola, with a total investment of 1.5 million euros.
The future transformation of the old shipyard will become a new public square by the sea, designed for citizen enjoyment and compatible with port activity. The mayor of Burriana, Jorge Monferrer, defended the urban and tourist importance of the project, emphasizing that the municipality's future is linked to tourism and that this action will break down barriers to open the port to the city.

"The future of the municipality is linked to tourism, and until now, what residents found when arriving at the port was a wall. The Generalitat and the city council have committed from the first minute to open the port to the city, break down barriers, and build a square so that everyone can enjoy these distinctive Mediterranean views."

This action is part of the Generalitat's strategy to modernize the regional port network and strengthen its role as an economic driver and a space for coexistence, reinforcing the commitment to sustainability and energy transition in the port sector.
