The Burriana City Council has begun removing over 5,000 tons of gravel from El Grao and Malvarrosa beaches, as part of the coastal adaptation works for the upcoming summer season.

This week, the council has intensified efforts on El Grao beach with the deployment of heavy machinery. The objective is to collect the gravel accumulated after successive storms that have affected the coast of the capital of La Plana Baixa.
These tasks involve screening, piling, and storing the excess stone on El Grao beach, as well as other scattered areas along Malvarrosa beach. The aim is to clear the fine, white sand surface characteristic of Burriana, so that the Coast Service can then permanently transfer these sediments to Santa Bárbara beach and other municipalities in the province.
Additionally, after completing ground leveling tasks in various coastal areas, municipal services have started installing access walkways and new volleyball nets for outdoor sports. The operation includes deploying 16 walkways on Arenal, Malvarrosa, and El Grao beaches, totaling over one and a half kilometers in length. Notably, the infrastructure features 320 meters adapted with three specific access points for people with reduced mobility, aiming to ensure comfortable transit and facilitate entry to the bathing area for both people with functional diversity and families.
This intervention is another step in the comprehensive preparation plan initiated in the weeks leading up to the last Easter holiday, when clearing work was carried out on the promenade, the meadows of Arenal were cleaned, and sand was screened to mitigate the effects of strong storms like Harry. Furthermore, urban furniture, waste bins, and access walkways are being reviewed and replaced in the Arenal, Malvarrosa, and El Grao areas.

"With the removal of these 5,000 tons of gravel and the constant adaptation of the environment, we are redoubling efforts so that residents and tourists find a well-maintained and perfect coastline. Coastal maintenance is a permanent task to ensure the quality of our image and services. Given that the volume of users increases every season, we work to provide an institutional response that meets the demands of residents and tourists."

Alongside the physical maintenance of the beaches, the City Council has increased the budget for the lifeguard and rescue contract by 20,000 euros. These additional funds will allow for an earlier general surveillance schedule in summer, which will now run from 10:00 AM to 8:00 PM, offering greater coverage for swimmers and families during the summer season.
