The project aims to expand the capacity of the railway network and boost freight traffic, facilitating compatibility with passenger traffic in the Mediterranean area. This initiative, affecting an area of 12,475 square meters around the station, has an execution period of 11 months.
The investment opens the door for Vila-real to potentially become a reference station for regional high-speed rail in the future. In addition to this action, the Ministry of Transport is working on an urban railway integration project, which includes the removal of the current footbridge for an underpass and a station renovation, with a budget close to 30 million euros.
Adif has submitted the expropriation file for public information, which is necessary to execute the construction of the 750-meter tracks. This action is part of the Valencia-Cambiador de La Boella railway line and will allow Vila-real station to accommodate freight trains of the standard length established by the European Union, improving railway transport efficiency and connection with the Mediterranean Corridor.
The new infrastructure will facilitate locomotive and freight train maneuvers, including reversal maneuvers for trains originating from or destined for the Port of Castellón intermodal terminal. The affected area totals 12,475 square meters, most of which correspond to rural land, and an additional 1,574 square meters are expected to be affected by easements.
During the 11 months of project execution, 3,263 square meters will be temporarily occupied for construction facilities. In total, the list of affected assets and rights includes 39 properties in the vicinity of Vila-real station. The publication in the BOE of the declaration of occupation necessity opens a 15-working-day period for affected parties to consult the documentation and submit allegations.
Concurrently, the Central Government continues to work on the railway integration project in Vila-real. The City Council has announced that the Ministry of Transport and Sustainable Mobility has already registered the general action protocol to promote this project. The council has also advanced in other procedures such as the temporary suspension of licenses in the station area and urban planning to facilitate future actions.
