The plenary session of the Almassora City Council has decided to postpone the approval of the cooperation agreement with the Generalitat Valenciana for the regeneration of the Om Blanc area, aiming to create a new green zone.

The proposal, which sought to establish a green zone between the residential beach area and the Serrallo industrial estate, was rejected by the opposition groups: PSPV, Compromís, and Vox. These parties chose to leave the agreement on the table, preventing its vote in the ordinary plenary session.

"It is a purely technical collaboration agreement, jointly prepared by municipal and Generalitat technicians. An agreement that looks after the interests of Almassora residents."

the mayor of Almassora
The mayor regretted the decision, considering it a lost opportunity to improve the quality of life for residents. She noted that information about the agreement had been available for almost a month and that the opposition abstained in the informative commission.
For their part, Compromís indicated that their intention is to include other measures in the agreement, such as requiring companies to get involved in the project's development and for the Generalitat to carry out noise measurements in the area. The signing of this agreement is essential to initiate the planned actions.
The project includes the regeneration of several plots near the Serrallo industrial estate, where the City Council has already carried out cleaning and conditioning work. The objective is to create a re-naturalized area of almost 60,000 square meters that acts as a transition between the industrial environment and the rest of the municipality, reducing the visual and environmental impact. The plan includes land preparation, demolition of existing buildings, and waste management, as well as an ecological suitability study to select the most appropriate plant species, with the collaboration of the Center for Forest Research and Experimentation (CIEF) of the Generalitat Valenciana.
